Biography
Born in Halifax West Yorkshire a historic market mill town, Danielle is proud of her Yorkshire and Mauritian background and is the first in her family to study in higher education. Her passion for developing diversity and equality is borne from her own educational experiences.
Currently employed as a Senior Lecturer in Teaching and Learning within The Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre at Kingston University London, Danielle's role involves advising academic staff how to develop inclusive teaching and learning practices, with a particular focus on enhancing staff competencies and knowledge around developing, Anti-Racist practice and, working towards developing culturally responsive pedagogy in reducing the BAME awarding gap. In addition she is also employed as the Equality and Diversity Lead for The Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme at Lancaster University.
With over 20 years’ experience, she has held a number of academic and professional services roles in further and higher education. Prior to working at Kingston University Danielle worked at The University of Manchester as an Equality Diversity and Inclusion Partner. She is currently a Doctoral candidate at Lancaster University her thesis examines “Working with Academic Developers in Moving Towards Developing a UK Decolonial Curriculum Praxis Typology”. Additional research interests include developing equity and diversity in higher education, widening participation, student success. Prior to working in education, Danielle worked in the finance sector in Human Resources and Insurance Services. Danielle is passionate about social justice and inequality she works in the voluntary sector and helped set up a food bank and homeless night shelter in the north of England. She has also taught ESOL classes and worked in collaboration with Calderdale Careers Service in developing careers guidance for refugees and asylum seekers.
